GDEX 2025 Session: Exploring Video Game Art Styles and How They Contribute to Game Design | Video games are intrinsically an audiovisual medium. As such, the visuals, art direction, and aesthetics of a game can be just as impactful to the overall player experience as the pure gameplay and mechanical aspects of the game. In this talk, we will examine video game art styles, the components that make them up, and their relationship to gameplay mechanics, genre, and level design. Whether you’re an aspiring developer looking to nail down the visual identity of your concept, an experienced developer looking for new insight into your design process, or an enthusiast curious about how the visuals of your favorite games are put together, this talk has something for you.
